When it comes to luxury homes in Chennai, gated communities are all the rage. A few of them come with well-rounded amenities like a clubhouse, swimming pool, gym, media center and kids play area.
While most gated communities don’t come with a set of rules and regulations, it is important to be mindful of how your actions affect your fellow residents. For your convenience, we have compiled a list of etiquette, to help you be a harmonious neighbour.
Most apartment communities have events for special occasions like festivals and National holidays. These events are a fantastic way to meet your neighbours, and foster a sense of community and togetherness with them. Usually, there are also several classes you could sign up for, to meet residents with similar interests.
Every resident of a gated community looks for a peaceful living environment. However, noise is inevitable, especially if you have home renovations going on. As a common courtesy, let your fellow residents know when you are about to begin interior work and give them a realistic timeline of completion. If your gated community has many senior residents, try to get home repairs done before 6 pm, so that the evenings are less noisy for your neighbours.
While gated communities employ cleaners to keep the surroundings clean, the burden of everyday cleanliness and hygiene rests on the residents. Follow general hygiene when using common amenities, and keep common areas free of trash and debris. Use the designated trash bins, and if you have pets, always carry a plastic bag to pick up after them.
While a gated community comes complete with plush amenities, you may encounter issues – either with fellow residents or with the infrastructure. Follow the common conflict resolution protocol (most gated communities come with a complaint redressal system), and be sure to keep your tone polite and respectful. If you are unhappy with the outcome, general body meetings provide an excellent platform to have your voice heard and peacefully resolve issues.
For the safety of residents, especially the elderly and children, most builders in Chennai impose a speed limit inside the community. Residents are assigned designated parking spots. Be sure to stick to them, to avoid causing inconvenience to your neighbours. Keep honking to a minimum inside the compound to preserve a calm environment.
